(b) The Stone Marking the former Peak Residence of the Governers: 'Mountain Lodge'
This stone (61 cm. high) was discovered by the Executive Secretary (Antiquities & Monuments) amongst bushes on Mount Austin Road, the Peak. It bears the words 'Governor's Residence' and was originally a marking stone for the old Peak Residence of the Governor, "Mountain Lodge", built in 1902 and demolished in 1946. The stone has subsequently been removed by the S.H.A. and is now stored in the grounds of Government House.
The department recommends that this stone should be preserved, and it is the Governor's view that the most appropriate place for its re-locaiton is the pavilion on Victoria Peak, the site on which Mountain Lodge stood. If the stone is palced on a plinth isnide the pavilion, and accompanied by a short explanatory inscription, it will add histrical interest to the spot.
