20 colour slides of 1960-61 Hong Kong

Submitted by David on

Visit Hong Kong at the start of the 1960s through this box of colour slides, found in a UK charity shop.

From the legendary Kai Tak Airport to the vibrant neon lights of Mong Kok and the bustling Star Ferry, we’ll piece together their history using visual clues, old maps, and movie releases.

I’ll include scans of all the slides below. Then to see my commentary about the scenes, please click here to watch the video.

A big thank you to Chris and Pat Lally, who gave me these slides when we met at my talk in London earlier this year. Chris says they found them in a charity shop in Seaford, East Sussex, so keep a look out - you never know what you’ll find!
