The space utilised by Shaw's for the Movietown plot decreased over the years, and many sections that contained film sets have since been redeveloped into part of the HKUST site. The core central site - sitting on the leveled top of a former hill - remains undeveloped for the time being but has been cleared of most of the old sound stages and production buildings. A single sound stage remains, as does the Shaw House admin block at the entrance and Sir Run Run Shaw's old villa on the east side of the plot. It's not clear what will remain once the site is redeveloped.
The site was leased to Shaw's circa 1961 and was operational from 1963 (?) as a film studio until circa 1985 and then as a TV studio (for TVB) following the relocation of TV related production from the Broadcast Drive site. Operations were later moved to the new "Shaw Studios" complex in Tseung Kwan O in the early 2000s.

Thanks Moddsey, I've updated the opening year to 1961.
Interestingly the article mentions their first film: White Golden Dragon. Strictly speaking though this was a product of the forerunner company called Tianyi. Also, mention is made of Sir Run Run's mansion in Repulse Bay. This would have been 40 Repulse Bay.
