Harvey Leroy Decker was an engineer born on 11th April 1896 in the USA, to John Leroy (25) and Margaret Metz Decker (18).
He registered for military service in 1919.
He married Ada May Ah Ching, an Australian, in 1921. They were the parents of at least 3 sons (one was Harvey Leroy Decker II) and 3 daughters.
They moved to Hong Kong at some point.
Ada May died in 1927 in Hong Kong, aged 33, and was buried in Happy Valley.
In 1928 Decker married Emelia/ Amelia Rose Rosselet in Hong Kong. They had one son, David. The China Mail reported Decker as working in the Motoring Department, Hong Kong & Shanghai Hotels and resided "on premises" in the Happy Valley Garage on Stubbs Road.
Decker was on the Hong Kong jury lists from 1927-1941. From 1935-41 his address is given as 24 Broadwood Road. He may have had contact with Augustine Leong, proprietor of the Savoy & Metropole Hotels, who also lived there previously.
The Deckers do not appear to have been in Hong Kong during the Japanese occupation.
In 1946 the Deckers continued to reside in Hong Kong, in Kowloon.
In 1948 they left Hong Kong and immigrated to New York City, United States, eventually retiring to Phelps, Vilas, in Wisconsin.
Harvey Decker died in 1969, at the age of 73, and was buried in Phelps Cemetery.
