Dorothy Elizabeth Walsh was better known as Sister Mary Dorothy. She served the Maryknoll Sisters and was assigned to Hong Kong in 1934. Sister Mary Dorothy started off as a teacher at Maryknoll Convent School in Kowloon Tong and in later years became the Superior and Principal of the Primary Section of Maryknoll Sisters' School (later called Marymount Primary School) on Blue Pool Road.
After the fall of Hong Kong, eighteen Sisters of Maryknoll Convent School, including Sister Mary Dorothy were interned at Stanley Camp on 8 February 1942. During her internment, she taught religious classes to Catholic children. In September 1942, Sister Mary Dorothy and other Maryknoll missionaries were released from confinement (see here). She later left Hong Kong for China and worked in the inland missions of Kweilin (Guilin) and Chungking (Chongqing). In 1945, Sister Mary Dorothy together with Sisters Mary Eucharista and Mary de Ricci made their way to India. They would return to Hong Kong in 1946.
Sister Mary Dorothy returned to the United States in 1949 but would later return to Hong Kong and continue her work in the field of education. She left Hong Kong in 1982.
