William Richard Johnson was an American missionary who sailed to China in 1906. He served as pastor, educator and school administrator for the Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1941, Rev. Johnson was Assistant Director and in charge of the American Red Cross China Relief Unit in Hong Kong.

After the fall of Hong Kong, Rev. Johnson was interned at Stanley Camp and later repatriated with other Americans to the United States in 1942.
