An Ancestry Public Tree shows her date of death 6-03-1924. but no place  of death. Probate records show that  the Ellen Ayrton who died in 1924 is not the wife of William Scrope Ayrton

Another Tree shows her date of death as 28 November 1897 in Wenchow China. This seems more likely to be the correct date as she gave birth to a child in 1897 in Wenchow and the child died soon after. Possibly Ellen also died at this time. On the  1901 Census her husband is living at 60 Edith Road Fulham London and his status is Single Consul (China Service) retired.  He died in 1902  and the Probate Calendar entry does not mention his wife. In 1901 five of his children are living at the same address as well as his sister  in law Millicent McClatchie  and  a cook and a housemaid. Probate Calendar shows bis date of death as 16 December 1902 and his administrators are named as Millicent Mary McClatchie spinster and Edward Ayrton silk spinner.

On an Ancestry McClatchie tree her birth is shown as 10 May 1854.
