In October 1940 Mrs A. G. Jefford, whose husband was in the UK, asked the Evacuation Tribunal to exempt her - she had completed a nursing course and had just been told that if she left a British Colony the allowance  from her husband (J. W. Jefford) would be halved. Her daughter 'Mrs. L. Weill' spoke in her support.

I suspect that this is Vera Weill, who was married to Leon Weill - can anyone correct or confirm?

I assume she was the 'Mrs. A. Jefford' who actually had been evacuated but quickly returned and was now seeking to stay with official approval. The Tribunal refused her request but she found a way to stay as she's recorded as being 'guaranteed out of Stanley' in June 1942.

Thanks Annpake and David.

In August 1948 the SCMP reported that Mr and Mrs J. A. Stericker were among those who went to Kai Tai to greet a kind of  'children's charter' - a Norwegian plane bringing young people home from England. They were there to welcome Gerald and Bernard Weil,l '13 and 16 respectively'.

Surprisingly this (summer 1948) was the first time one (unnamed) former internee  had seen his child  in 9 years.
