The mention that he was a student at HKU made me wonder if he's mentioned in the book about the university around the war years: Dispersal and Renewal: Hong Kong University During the War Years

There's more than a mention, as he wrote a short, 5-page chapter for the book. He says that after the surrender he spent "four years as a prisoner of war in Sham Shui Po", where "as I spoke Japanese I was made an interpreter".

That means a small correction to the text above: "Lived in Taipo 1941 to 1942". After leaving Tai Po in 1941, he wouldn't have seen it again til his release from camp in 1945.
