- 1912: The West Ham 1912 Kellys Trade Directory in Essex lists him as curate at All Saints church, Church Street.
- 1917: A government document lists him as working at St Paul's College. See Appendix B of Correspondence Between the, and His Excellency the Governor Military Service Commission.
- 1919: He as appointed as Assistant Master at Queen's College on 22nd Dec. See page J106 of Civil Establishments of Hongkong, for the Year 1920.
- 1939: Appointed Principal of Central British School wef 1st April, 1939. See item 666 in the HK Gov't Gazette.

Clergyman’s Gruesome Discovery.
Whilst returning home on Saturday night, the Rev. G.E.S. Upsdell made a gruesome discovery. He saw the body of a Chinese man hanging to the railings of No. 5, Queen’s Gardens. Life was extinct, death having apparently occurred hours previously. A report was made to the police, and the remains were taken to the Mortuary.
It is believed to be a case of suicide. The identity of the man is being investigated by the police.”
