Guns, Graves, and Geckos: Gwulo's guided walk around Mount Davis

Submitted by David on Thu, 01/05/2017 - 17:20

The route is a favourite of mine - I've lived near Mount Davis for over 20 years, and walk this route once or twice a week. So after 1,000+ walks spent looking at things along the way and thinking "I wonder why that's like that...?", it seemed a good idea to share some of the answers!

We'll start at the Pokfield Road bus terminus, head up Pokfulam Road, along Mount Davis Road, and back along Victoria Road to end up at Kennedy Town, not far from the MTR station.

We'll stop to look at some of the unusual items along the route, and talk about how they fit into Hong Kong's history. I'll bring along old photos and maps to help explain some of the changes we'll see. To get an idea of what to expect, listen to this episode of the Hong Kong Heritage radio show from 2014, where I took the show's presenter Annemarie Evans on this walk.

The walk lasts about two hours, and is suitable for groups of 1 - 12 people.

Customer feedback:

  • A review of the walk appears on page 14 of the RAS HK newsletter for May 2018.

  • "My sister, brother-in-law and I enjoyed David’s informative guided walk around Mount Davis. David pointed out to us various things which we would otherwise not have noticed had we been unaccompanied, and we learnt some interesting historical trivia along the way."
