Her death was reported on page 2 of The Hong Kong Telegraph, 1923-03-05:
OBITUARY
Mrs. Mary Uschmann.
The death is announced to-day of Mrs. Mary Uschmann, for many years a resident of this Colony. The news came to her relative here by cable from Leipzig, Germany, whither she recently went to undergo an operation. It would appear that Mrs. Uschmann died in the doctor's hands on Saturday. For a number of years Mrs. Uschmann ran the Grand Hotel in Queen's Road and on selling out that establishment, inaugurated the Station Hotel at Kowloon, where she was very successful until the war and the nationality of her husband resulted in her having to leave the Colony. She was allowed to return after the declaration of peace. Mrs. Uschmann leaves a family of married daughters to whom the sympathy of their many friends will be extended in their bereavement.
