Wally Scragg joined the HKP shortly before the Japanese invasion and was still at the Police Training School (PC 187) when the Colony surrendered. He was one of a number of new recruits who were commended for dealing with fires, rescue work after bombing and shelling, control of rice and food queues and dealing with looters.
