John Black's list gives DoB as 1886, and occupation in 1941 as "Secretary".

Philip Cracknell writes: "There was a Jess Graham-Barrow in Camp whose DoB is 5th April 1884 who was a Secretary at Arnhold & C. (listed under G) ".

In Paul Tsui's Memoirs, he mentioned serving as an Assistant to a Lt. John Barrow, in the British Military Administration of HK in 1945/46.  Barrow was District Officer / New Territories (later designated Commissoner for the NT).  Barrow had been an experienced Cadet Officer in pre-War HK and said to have been a PoW during the occupation.  Despite being junior in rank in the BMA, Barrow was senior in age and very experienced as an Administrative Officer. Tsui said he learnt a lot from Barrow.  Barrow was also described as being conversant with the conduct of idemtification process for the War Crime Tribunals in view of his experience as a Magistrate (Special?) pre-War.  Barrow became a senior HMOCS Cadet Officer upon demobilisation in Dec 1946. Perhaps there is a relation to this J. Graham Barrow.

I've just updated this lady's surname. I'd previously just had it as 'Barrow', as on page two of the Stanley Nominal Roll she is listed as:

Barrow, Mrs.J.Graham. 56

But Macnider's diary mentions her as:

Mrs Graham Barrow

And the list of people embarking on the Empress of Australia also shows 'Mrs Graham Barrow'. Other entries on that list do not show given names, so I believe her surname was 'Graham Barrow'. I've updated the page above.

After the change of surname, I'd say it's unlikely she was related to Mr J Barrow.

Regards, David
