Nationality Chinese-British, born Hongkong 1918, hospital dresser, BAAG Nov. 42 - Dec 45.

“This man was employed by the BAAG, after his escape from Hongkong, in the Medical Section to set up Medical Aid Posts in the guerilla areas.  From Nov 43, he was in complete charge of a post at Shekma, over 30 miles forward from AHQ, where the nearest MO and hospital was situated. Here he looked after all the sick in the district and all the guerilla wounded for about twelve months. When the Japanese captured Shekma he organised and carried out the evacuation of all his patients and stores without loss and established another post with the HQs of Waichow-Tamshui Garrison. Here again, he was forced to evacuate at a few hours notice only, and again he accomplished the difficult task without loss, an amazing accomplishment when one considers he had no transport of any kind whatsoever.

The whole of his service was spent in the guerilla areas, miles in advance of our most forward posts and through his untiring energy and devotion to duty, many lives, both civil and military, were saved, and our escape and evasion work in this area greatly facilitated.”   (signed) L T Ride, Colonel.
