Joss House Bay temple can be seen next to the beach. Booth describes going to this temple to watch the Tin Hau celebrations. Local sampans (run by the local triads) were used to get from their boat to the 'pebble beach'.

Note: If I am not mistaken, apparently the Tin Hau temple here is the oldest currently standing in HK. Sources show it was built in 1266 and have an adjacent rock carving from 1274.

There is quite a detailed account of the Tin Hau Temple at Joss House Bay in Joyce Savidge's book 'This is Hong Kong - Temples' published in 1977. There is is said "The original building went up in 1266 - but no-one knows how many times it has been reconstucted since then."
