He was born in Leeds on 26 March 1902. He died in Hong Kong on 2 December 1966. He was a POW in Sham Shui Po until he was transferred to Japan 29th April 1944 where he worked in a coal mine until the war ended and he was reunited with his wife and son who had been in Shanghai since mid-1942 when they had left Hong Kong.
