William died in Hong Kong in 1901 at the age of 42. His wife Harriet is also believed to have passed away in China. They were buried at Happy Valley Cemetery in Hong Kong but both their graves were scheduled to be exhumed about 1975 as shown in the Hong Kong Government Gazette No. 48/1975 Remains were to be moved to the Ossuary
