His full name is William Horg Sling and is referred to in various BAAG reports. He was imprisoned (smuggling), tortured and released as nothing was proved against him.
Thanks Philip, I've added in the extra info.
It's HONG Sling.
He gave evidence at a war crimes trial:
And played bowls for Kowloon Cricket Club:
Thanks Brian, that turns up lots more. He was born in Chicago. His father was a wealthy Chinese merchant living there. Here's a family photo, and background information on the family:
He must have moved to Hong Kong when he was young, as here he is playing cricket at Hong Kong University in 1933:
According to Peter Hall's '150 years of Cricket in Hong Kong', WHS was playing cricket for the Chinese Recreation Club in the 1920s.
Bill Sling was well known in the 50s regarding his association with the KCC& KBGC & a close personal friend of my family
I did not realise until now of his war time ordeals
I am currently working on a an analysis of the Kempai Tai involvement in HK
Any serious histlorical input would be greatly appreciated(particularly by those directly or indirectly involved)
