In the 1941 Jurors List, he worked as manager of the British American Tobacco Co., (China) Ltd.. He and his son by the same name were interned at Stanley Camp. They were repatriated to the Unites States in 1942. Upon return, Francis Neville Merritt Sr. joined the government in Washington.
