Some time after the staging, Chung King-fai was encouraged to receive reply letter from Thornton Wilder in his own handwriting. It was written in blue, red, green coloured pencils and ink. The brief content is recaped here :
To Mr. CHUNG King-fai
-- from the neighborhood of
Yale University --Mr. Nichols* has kindly
sent me many photographs of the
production of "Our Town" under
your direction — and Mr.
Wilt^ a moving account of his
enjoyment in it.
Congratulations!
Thanks!
Cordial best wishes!I write you in color because from
my visit to Hong Kong so many years ago
I remember the buoyant role that
color plays in that great city. I
remember it with affection and delight
and — during the years that have
intervened — with concern, sympathy,
and with confidence in the great
work it is doing in continuing
the great traditions of Eternal
China.Deep thanks, sir
Sincerely yours,Thornton Wilder
