Although the slide is a sea of lights, a group of dark buildings help to date it. Trace a vertical line down from the nose of the aeroplane to arrive at a large, multi-storey development in complete darkness. It’s Ma Tau Wai Estate under construction. It consists of five blocks, four of which are visible from this angle. Construction of these four blocks started in January 1961. By March 1962, two blocks (Hibiscus and Magnolia Houses) had been completed and the other two (Rose and Narcissus Houses) were nearing completion (1). All four blocks appear as a large, dark, mass in the slide, meaning that construction had reached multi-storey level but was incomplete.
So, the slide was taken in late 1961 or early 1962.
