M.V. LU LIANG SHAN 07 1981

Despite the rapid growth of container services in the 1980s, a variety of older former European breakbulk cargo ships could still be seen in the harbour. Ships moored to the west of Stonecutters Island were usually laid up or being overhauled by the PRC owned Yiu Lian Dockyard Co.

The M.V. LU LIANG SHAN was undergoing repairs in the anchorage west of Stonecutters Island at buoy B45 in July 1981.

Perched precariously to the sides of ships one wonders what the accident rate was for dockyard painters.

In the 1990s the anchorage was reclaimed to form Container Terminal 8.

According to the 1968 Port map the area west of Stonecutters Island was marked as the Western Quarantine and Immigration Anchorage and Rifle Range.
