In Chinese, 油柑子(Phyllanthus emblica)橄欖、滇橄欖、久如拉、昂荊旦、麻甘腮、牛甘子、牛甘果、喉甘子、魚木果、木波、望果、米含.  We have at least a dozen name for this, depending on which province, which village you lived in China.

This fruit is a bit bitter, but clench the thirst at best.   In Swatow, where Swire heavily invested in sugar refinery, shipping etc before WW2, the fruit were most liked there, they have many way to use this fruit, including drinks, and as preserved food for porridge etc.

Yau Kom Tau (油柑頭) in Tsuen Wan was named after this fruit, because they had so many trees of this kind.

In the 60s, there were quite a few of this kind of tree in the Victoria Peak, I took them home and my mom would made them into a drink, particularly in summer.
