Peninsula Court, new annexe to the Peninsula Hotel - page 1 of 4

"The site belongs to the Hong Kong & Shanghai Hotels, Ltd., and once it was decided to develop it, plans for the 12-storey building were entrusted to Mr. Faitfone Wong, B.Sc. (Arch), and the demolition of the old structure began soon after."

"Demolition was completed and the site cleared by the end of August 1955.  Piling for the foundations commenced in September and was completed by the end of the year."

"Building work on the general contract commenced in the early part of 1956.  Excavation was carried out with comparative ease as much sand was found underneath the site which was evidently at one time part of the Kowloon foreshore."
