Queens Road by Lai Afong, 1879

From Category:Photographs of Hong Kong by Lai Afong - Wikimedia Commons

I think the photo shows today's Queensway looking west. The building on the right should be F Block, Hospital, Wellington Barracks / Nelson Block [????-????], and in the center (in the road bend) E Block, Victoria Barracks [????-????]. Interestingly, on the building in the road bend an inscription can be seen: ROYAL NAVAL SEA(MEN'S ...?). The building left is unknown to me.

Compare this photo from 1935:

Addendum: In the original photo a sign can be seen on the right: Wing Tai or Hing Tai.

Likely it was the Royal Naval Seamen's Club. A grant was given by the Government to aid the club in 1888. China Mail 12 November 1888 refers. See here

A Queen's Road East address for the Club was given in the 1894 Directory & Chronicle..... See here Long before Queensway came into being, this section of road east of the Cricket Club was considered as Queen's Road East.
