Panoramic view of Hong Kong in two sheets (part 1)

Photo held in the online collection of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland ([Photo.22/(009)] Panoramic view of Hong Kong in two sheets - Royal Asiatic Society Online Collections). Uploaded to Gwulo with kind permission of the Royal Asiatic Society.

The photographer is unknown.

The left part of the panorama, likely taken from (or nearby) Scandal Point. The date is likely 1875. This is supported by the fact that St. Joseph's Church (1st gen.) still lies in ruins after the September 1874 typhoon (see here). The second part of the panorama shows the intact praya and harbour including e.g. Douglas Wharf. As the praya was almost completely destroyed, the reconstruction needed several months and was likely completed at some time in 1875.
