Aberdeen Dockyard c. 1870

From the Album of Hongkong Canton Macao Amoy Foochow : vol.1 /50.

Photo probably taken by W. P. Floyd.

Two ships in the docks. They still look like sailing ships, possibly with motors already.

The date is not given. However, a handwritten note in the album states that the photos were taken around 1870.

Could one of those 2 ships (more likely the near one, which appears to be larger) be HMS Cadmus? My great x3 uncle arrived in Hong Kong on the Cadmus in 1873, and then sailed on her as she patrolled the Treaty Ports along the China coast and upto Yokohama. Charles Boreham stayed on in Hong Kong when his ship was recalled to England in 1879, and now resides in a Happy Valley cemetery.  The only confirmed picture I can find of HMS Cadmus is attached - and not a very glorious picture at that!

Thanks David, I hadn't seen reference to the figurehead in Devonport previously. However, there have been several HMS ships named Cadmus (and 2 concurrently in the mid-1800s!) and the mainly red/blue figurehead in the dockyard doesn't look like the one in the photo accompanying it which is predominately white - as is the one in the photo of Aberdeen docks.
