The photo shows my cousins Diana and Geoffrey Warren on the lawn in front of their house at 19 Broadwood Road. From the children's ages, I judge the date to be around 1929. Their father's business, C.E. Warren & Co. Ltd. was doing well at the time. This is reflected in the expensive rocking horse and car that the children are showing off. Toys were imported from England. Originally listed on Leighton Hill, 19 Broadwood Road was not among the houses included in the Broadwood Road project built on I.L. 1947. It was the furlough house of the Rev. Webb Anderson of Fatshan and his wife, and already existed in 1915. It was let to the Warrens after the death of Charles Warren in 1923 which coincided with Webb Anderson's retirement. The Warrens lived there until 1938 when Cicely Warren and her children left Hong Kong.
