We see a lot of images of Short Sunderland flying boats at Kai Tak.
This one and any related HK newsprint reports seem to have eluded us.
It would be somewhat perilous to carry on flying many hours from Singapore to Hong Kong with a damaged hull. Perhaps they did not want to incur the inevitable wrath of their commanding officer by returning immediately to their base and hope he had calmed down by the time they returned to Singapore without the aircraft.
