The sundial was unveiled on Armistice Day 1928 by His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government (the Hon. W. T. Southorn, C. M. G.) at the Club de Recreio. See front page of the China Mail dated 12 November 1928.

Note the pedestal and iron railings around the memorial were made by C. E. Warren & Co.
