We believe this to be a photo of Jockey Knoll on the China pony, Mosaic Tile. Mosaic Tile became the most successful pony owned by Mr Towers, pseudonym of Charles Warren. Mosaic Tile had won this particular race by five lengths after "bolting". The occasion was "Off Day" which was especially for ponies that had not so far won a race during Derby week. Mr. Knoll was the pseudonym for Archie David, who had a stable of his own under the pseudonym of Mr. Gilpin. Note the jockey's dangling legs and huge size by comparison with that of contemporary professional jockeys.
The list below shows Archie David's relative success as an owner and a jockey in February 1921.
