Ocean Terminal-cargo shipping-HK hotel under construction

While waiting on the Ocean Terminal car park roof for my family to finish their extended Saturday Yum Cha sessions in the restaurants below, it was always interesting to watch the dexterity of winchmen and dockers loading and unloading cargo vessels. From the car park you could see how the cargo was stacked in deep holds and the manual efforts it took to get it out, all the while dodging the dangerously swinging winch hooks or pallets. Tallymen on deck registered each lift of the cargo while directing it to the quayside or cargo junks assembled on the harbour side of the vessel.

This entertainment ceased when cargo vessels were generally superseded by dedicated container ships handled away at the Kwai Chung container port within security conscious compounds.
