In 2013 I wanted to record the location where my great-grandfather, John Olson had lived from 1885 to about 1898. At the time I didn't know that my grandparents, Leslie and Hannah Warren had lived there from 1898 and that my Warren uncle and aunt had been born there in 1900 and 1902 respectively. I gather, thanks to Andrew Olson, that the original Ladder Street Terrace houses had been knocked down and rebuilt in 1952, so these are not the originals. The above photo is one of four that I took. I moreover understand that the houses in my photos have since been demolished. John Olson kept his house at 1 Ladder Street Terrace until his death in 1918. As far as I know, it was the only property that he retained, although he didn't live in it himself after 1899. According to the Land Registry, John Olson and his friend, Louis Kirchmann, who bought no. 4, were the first owners of the newly built houses in the terrace. John Olson's son, John Olson jnr was quick to sell no. 1 after his father's death. According to the Rate Book, Agostinho d'Azavedo owned nos. 5-8.
See https://gwulo.com/media/24890 for the Rate Book entry for both Ladder Street 1-6 including Ng Akew's propeties + Ladder Street Terrace 1-8 owners in 1888-1889.
