Where was this photo taken?

I came across this photo in my mother's album and am trying to determine where it was taken.  I don't recognize the houses/buildings in the background or the bus coming along this road.  I am hoping someone can identify this location.

The photo shows, from left, Maria "Cissy" Huysman (daughter of Ugo Gonella and Grace Murray), my mother's eldest sister Phyllis (D'Almada E Castro) dos Remedios, and my mother Belle Reed.  It was taken sometime in the 1970s.  Cissy and her husband, Jan, lived in a house on Blue Pool Road as I recall, but this area seems a bit more remote.

Hi there.  My Dad was Ricardo,  Phyllis' eldest son, and I knew your mum as (great) Auntie Belle ❤️ it would be lovely to be in touch xx. Best wishes Laura

PS I may be able to find out through Uncle Joe where this photo was taken xxx

Hi Laura, so great to hear from you.  I remember you and Ted when you were both very young, and have photos of you both in my mother's albums.  I was in touch with your parents when they were living in The Algarve, and regret I didn't get to see them when I visited Portugal during that time.  In going through family albums I came across so many family photos taken with Ric and Joe that I would love to share with you, as well as those of you and Ted.  Our cousin Mike did share a little information about you and Ted in one of his emails to me.

Regarding the above photo, I think it was determined from feedback received that it was around the Repulse Bay area.  You might be interested in seeing another photo I posted on this website that shows your grandma Phyllis, your dad Ric, and your great grandma taken with my father, Willie Reed, his brothers and mother at their Broadwood Road house.  I believe my mother took that photo as she wasn't in the group shot.  There is also a photo taken at my parents' wedding reception in 1939 that shows your Grandma Phyllis.  You can access these and other photos in the Gallery link above for the Reed family.

Warm regards to you and Ted, Angela

I'll ask the editor, David, through this post, to forward my email address to you so that we can communicate and catch up.  Thanks again for your help, David!

Oh yes please can you let us exchange emails David?

It is wonderful to have found you. I was actually looking for my godmother Cissy H. Which is how I stumbled upon the photo with grandma 🥰 We have lots of photos too ..I will have to dig them out (most are still in boxes since we moved house a couple of years ago🙂). I think I remember you coming to visit us in Hong Kong?  I live in Cornwall, England now.  Big hugs and love xx hopefully we can email soon xx

Hi again, Laura!  I'm so glad we connected and am looking forward to exchanging emails with you soon.  I didn't know that Cissy was your godmother.  I remember that she was very close with your grandma, who was my first communion godmother.  We stayed in touch after she and Jan retired to Belgium.  They called me every Christmas.  Cissy's mother Grace and siblings were first cousins with my father and his six brothers.  Cissy's grandmother, Lucretia (Reed) Murray was sister to my grandfather Amaro John Reed.  Cissy had a very close relationship with Aunty Maggie Bond who was half sister to Amaro and Lucretia.  There is a page on this website on Cissy's father, Ugo Gonella, who was an architect in Hong Kong and the main designer of St. Margaret's Church there. I did return to Hong Kong a few times after I left in November 1974.  My mother joined me here in 1993.  I also visited Aunty Phyllis, Uncle Gus and Aunty Molly when they moved to Vancouver, British Columbia.  Please remember me to Ted. Hugs!
