At the beginning of the war when local Japanese Colonel-in-Charge Kanamaru was paying visits to The Fanling Babies' Home, he observed Mildred Dibden painting her floral watercolours and asked if he might take one for himself. He chose a piece depicting tiger lilies.
After her retirement Mildred Dibden was able to give time to her love of watercolour painting, and floral watercolours in particular. From time to time she held sales of her pictures, sending the proceeds to support the Home of Loving Faithfulness in Hong Kong, a special needs work which grew out of her own work when she left HK in 1966, and which still continues today. The book Secret Riches by Linda Ball tells the story.
