In case this 1916-17 Rate Book entry is useful for determining the first date for nos. 4 & 5 Broadwood Road, I recall that 1916 was the second year that these two houses appear in the Rate Books with the Broadwood Road address. As I.L. 2060 and I.L. 1911 respectively, they are allocated a separate section from nos. 8-21 Broadwood Road, built very slightly later by C.E. Warren & Co. in the large I.L. 1947. This latter section of Broadwood Road is described in parentheses as "Leighton Hill near Wong Nei Chung outside the City boundary." Perhaps nos. 1-5 Broadwood Road were not originally a part of Leighton Hill? Nos. 1, 2 and 3 Broadwood Road in I.L 2039 and owned by The Hong Kong Land Investment & Agency Ltd. are entered in a separate section again from nos. 4 & 5. According to the Government Report, the footways for the Broadwood Road were still being surfaced and channeled in 1915.

I see from a post of my own under the thread for René Auguste Button at https://gwulo.com/node/22558 that Mr Hall Brutton's house at I.L. 2060 must have already existed in 1913, but not with the Broadwood Road address. As there seems to have been some vagueness about the location, perhaps the house didn't have a precise address at the time. Is the "hill" that is being referred to in the correspondence that I cited actually Leighton Hill?
