1931 03 Visiting The Resolute

The Resolute was a HAPAG ship. My grandmother (pictured here with her husband and my mother) was from Hamburg. Letters from her indicate that they would take parcels for the family in Hamburg to a specific ship that would get there fastest, and presumably would go back to Hamburg on holiday this way.

From Wikipedia: The Hamburg-Amerikanische Packetfahrt-Aktien-Gesellschaft for shipping across the Atlantic Ocean was founded in Hamburg. .......During World War I, the majority of Hapag's fleet of 175 ships were wiped out, and most of the surviving ships .....had to be turned over to the winning side as war reparations. After war's end, Hapag rebuilt its fleet with much smaller ships than before the war, but their fleet was again mostly wiped out during World War II, and surviving ships turned over to allied powers
