The pier is lined up with the centre of Pedder Street, which should make it the pier that opened around 1886 (see https://gwulo.com/pedders-wharf-post-1886).That dates the photo to the late 1880s.
Thanks. In photos of 1892-1893 there is a covered wooden structure at the beginning of the pier which is absent from this photo. Maybe when the temporary timber wharf opposite Ice House Street was opened to traffic on 27th June 1894 and this Pedder Wharf was closed to main traffic, the shading and protection of the wooden structure for a non-functional wharf was no longer needed and removed? This makes me think this photo may date from after 27th June 1894.
The scaffolding of the Jardine building, perhaps rendering or renovation being done, may date the photo more precisely if we knew when that was done.
