The neon signs gave away the location. The building with the Sony sign was on the corner of O'Brien Road but I could not recall its name. The building next to it (westward) was the Redifusion Tower. That was built before the Broadcast Drive days. The one next to RTV was the Luk Kwok Hotel (The one with the Sanyo sign). The greenish tower was on the corner of Luard Road. I am unable to recall the name of the building either.
On the east side of the Rediffusion House, there was a long block of old buildings. Further east we can see a road and a taxi coming out from the Convention Ave in front of the second generation Wanchai pier or from the parking lot. It either can turn at Gloucestor Ave or go up the Fleming flyover.Of course the pier itself was further east near the Stewart Ave.
A bit of history. When the second generation Wanchai pier opened in 1968, there was a curvy road leading from O'Brian-Gloucestor junction to the pier as shown in this 1970 map:
Looking at this 1982 air view, the curvy road has disappeared. One can only access the pier from the southern side of Gloucester rd either by the flyover or pedestrian bridge along Fleming road. Of course the above 1978 picture shows that the curvy road disappeared before 1978. It probably disappeared after the Fleming flyover and pedestrian bridge were opened (1970 Jun 30). A 1971 photo of the pedestrian bridge already shows the curvy road no longer necessary in 1971 (https://gwulo.com/media/43185). The Gloucester rd itself had been going through major construction for adding more lanes. The widened Gloucester rd was opened on Aug 6 1970.
These are photos around the same location and further east. The above 1978 photo just misses the famous "味の素" sign on top of the left side of that block of old houses.
