Looking for help to identify these photos my grandfather took when he was in Hong Kong with the British Army in the 1950s. I've carried out some research by looking at old photos but with limited success. The photos have also been shared with a number of Facebook forums. I'm really grateful for any help anyone can give as my goal is to build an album showing my grandfather's photos against the modern day photos of our time in Hong Kong.

The road in the centre would be La Salle Road. The photo like most others was taken from the roof of La Salle College looking down at the sports field of La Salle Primary School. Part of the School building can be seen on the extreme right. Boundary Street is on the left.

Brilliant - thank you. I'll have to try and find out if he was there as a patient or for another reason!

The photo above was taken from the school building of La Salle College, which was requisitioned by the British Army as a military hospital from 1949 to 1959.  The hospital was named 33rd General Hospital.  The photo shows the view of La Salle Primary School playground, with La Salle Road in the foreground.   The La Salle College building is no longer standing as it was knocked down in 1978, replaced by a modern campus building.

It's almost certain your grandfather took the photo from one of these windows.  (photo: LSC from LSPS)

And here is the La Salle Primary School Building as seen in 1960.  (Photo: LSPS 1960)

I am an old boy of both schools, I would be very interested to see if your grandfather had any more photos of the 33rd General Hospital.

Here are some photos of the building taken in the 1970s: http://www.lscoba.com/gallery.php?id=8445

And here are a few photos taken by British military personnel while the building was an army hospital.  http://www.lscoba.com/gallery.php?id=8449
