This photo is labelled "Kathleen Hyde-Lay and her brother." They are presumably the children of Alexander and Betty Hyde-Lay who were killed in error by an allied bomb that hit Bunglalow C in Stanley Camp, as recorded in Barbara Anslow's diary. The cheerful boy, whose name isn't given, appears in a couple of other photos as one of several unidentified passengers in a vintage car, two of whom may be his parents. The preservation of these photos in our family albums implies that the children were friends of my Warren cousins in the mid- to late 1930s. Perhaps someone knows whether they were evacuated and what happened to them.

Not Derek Hyde-Lay
Although Kathleen Hyde-Lay believes that she recognizes herself in this photo, the family does not believe that the boy is her brother Derek. Derek is shown in the family photo that they have supplied
