I took this photo in the early 1980s. I have always been sure that I took it on a school field trip to Silvermine Bay, starting and finishing at the Mui Wo ferry. I think this was taken in an inlet somewhere between the ferry and the main beach. It seems the tide was out and I seem to recall that the photo was taken facing the South (ish!).
However, it is creating a lot of debate and playing havoc with our memories. Would anyone familiar with the area at that time like to wade in with their thoughts?

Re: Silvermine Bay?
Hi there,
It is Silvermine Bay alright. There is actually a landmark on the left of the photo. You have one of the fort/更樓 with a bigger house there. The bigger house is in ruins but the fort still stands today. Link The fort I mentioned is at around 22.26548, 113.99470

Re: Silvermine Bay
Hi there,
I suspect you were standing somewhere near the former football playground when you were there. There used to be squartered huts in the area, but they did not show up in your photo. Instead, the sandy beach beneath them was shown. That was just before the area was redeveloped, I think. If you go there today, the location is likely a bit towards the SMB Hotel.
Much had been reclaimed when the redevelopment started on both sides of the stream.

The village fort, or better say, a lookout tower
Hi there, I have actually put its approximate location in longitude and lattitude in my initial reply. Pleas scroll up and use it on Google Earth.

The Tower
I think it's the tower that's part of the Chung Hau Old Mansion & Watch-tower.
I've made a Place for it that shows the location,

The smoke could come from the first Mui Wo Incinerator .
