Here is the view into the room. In the back left corner of the room are two openings. A smaller one in the left wall, and a larger one in the back wall.
Q. What was this room used for? From its location could it have been the magazine for the No. 3 gun emplacement, which is approximately above this location?

This is a plotting room no
This is a plotting room no doubt. These two openings were ventilation shafts and emergency exits. The design is more or less the same as the underground Brigade HQ in Tai Tam (it is a plotting room formerly). The left one is probably a ventilation shaft. But the right one is not so sure, i have to be there to confirm. But this room is quite small in size according to the photos, i believe that the engine would not be big.
The ceiling is shell proof, same as the underground conference room beneath the War Department in London.
Shell-proof?
Gary, thanks for writing in to identify the purpose of that room. I'm curious to know, what are the tell-tale signs that show it is shell proof?
