Notes from Moddsey: The rickshaw rank on Connaught Rd Central in front of St. Georges Bldg, facing entrance to Star Ferry. Note Nippon Yusen Kaisya (now NYK Line) sign on King's Bldg.
On the left, St George's building shows the initials O.S.K. "Osaka Shosen Kaisha", another Japanese shipping line, had offices there. Wikipedia has a history of OSK.

American President Lines
I saw a photo somewhere that shows the OSK sign already replaced by (AMERICAN PRE) SIDENT LINES, LTD. HK to San Francisco ... . 18 days on the high sea, general quarters bunk bed near the engines and back of the ship, 3 meals and do your own laundry, 2 stops in Japan then Honolulu. Stepping outside HK for the first time, I saw the world began to change and even little things had impression on me; one sea gull followed my ship for quite some time and there was no land anywhere to be seen. Ticket cost $341 USD.
