The Canton Road Shooting Affray was a violent, running gun battle on December 29, 1923, in Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon, between the British Hong Kong Police Force and an armed gang.

Police officers were dispatched after receiving reports of armed men in the crowded district, leading to a fierce shoot-out in the streets.

The officers confronted the heavily armed suspects on Canton Road. The encounter quickly escalated into a prolonged gun battle through the crowded streets and alleys.

The King's Police Medal: One of the participating officers was awarded the prestigious King's Police Medal for his outstanding leadership and valor during the affray.

Inspector Timothy Murphy was the recipient of the King's Police Medal. He is likely the man seated in civilian dress fourth from the right. He received his medal in May 1925 from the Governor at Police Headquarters. See China Mail 23 May 1925.
