This Former Chatham Road Children's Playground and Rest Garden (2nd Location) was located to the east of Chatham Road and west of the (KCR) railway tracks between Hart Avenue and Signal Hill and replaced the original Chatham Road Children's Playground (Ist Location [1913-c.1967] some time in 1967.

The location of this playground is also not to be confused with the Old Chatham Road Children's Playground Pavilion which was located nearby but to the north of Cameron Road.

Hi Moddsey,

would you think the playground was already there in 1947 on the photo below:

At least trees are there.

Further information here from 1929. As I understand, the area east of Chatham Road adjoining the (KCR) railway tracks appears to have been reserved by either the military or KCR for future development purposes. Not sure when the Old Chatham Road Park became disused. But certainly post war the northern section became the Chatham Road Camp and the Merchant Navy Sports Ground. Thus, the need for a new Children's Park and Playground in the southern section. Thankfully, the playground for children still exists today in the Urban Council's Centenary Garden.

I'd like to have two separate Places, as they existed at different locations at different times. This page is for the later playground that replaced the original playground shown at https://gwulo.com/node/62108, and was further south.

If we change this page's title to 'Former Chatham Road Children's Playground (2nd location) and Rest Garden [c.1967-????]', will that help make the difference clearer?
