Current condition
Demolished / No longer exists

The Former Chatham Road Children's Playground and Rest Garden was located to the east of Chatham Road and west of the (KCR) railway tracks between Hart Avenue and Signal Hill. The location of this playground is not to be confused with the Old Chatham Road Children's Playground and Pavilion which was located nearby but to the north of Cameron Road as mentioned here

Hi Moddsey,

would you think the playground was already there in 1947 on the photo below:

At least trees are there.

At least planned in 1922:

Further information here from 1929. As I understand, the area east of Chatham Road adjoining the (KCR) railway tracks appears to have been reserved by either the military or KCR for future development purposes. Not sure when the Old Chatham Road Park became disused. But certainly post war the northern section became the Chatham Road Camp and the Merchant Navy Sports Ground. Thus, the need for a new Children's Park and Playground in the southern section. Thankfully, the playground for children still exists today in the Urban Council's Centenary Garden.
