Any idea about the name of these buildings, or where they were?

Hi HF,

Thanks for posting this early view looking down on Aberdeen harbour, probably from Mount Kellett Road.

A. Dunnottar.

B. La Hacienda.

C. Bangour.

D. Kellett Spur

E. CMS Sanitarium.

The sites of A to E were all purchased at public auction, probably the latest of which was for the Bangour site - RBL 29, auctioned on 4 Feb 1884 (1). The photo is a bit blurred, but we can see that the roof is on. It would have taken at least a few months for construction to reach this stage, so the photo was taken in mid-1884 at the earliest.

A building not in your photo, but which would have been clearly seen if it had been built by the time the photo was taken, is Fernside on RBL 48, located just this side of D. RBL 48 was put up for auction on 18 Oct 1886 (2) and Fernside was named in the 1888 Peak Directory, published in early 1888. Therefore, construction of Fernside probably started at sometime in late 1886 or 1887. As your photo shows no sign of construction activity on RBL 48 it must have been taken in 1887 at the latest.

Therefore, your photo was taken at sometime between mid-1884 and 1887. Corrections welcome.
