The Kowloon Hotel was, I believe, built in 1923. My grandfather stayed here when he first arrived in Hong Kong in 1924. The back of the postcard simply says, "This is a photograph of The Kowloon Hotel. I am on the top floor."

Seems like by triangulating all the photographic evidence that the series of postcards your grandfather got would date them almost all to 1923.
